The news I must bring breaks my heart. One of my favorite Southern MCs and all around people Young Jeezy has been arrested on battery, false imprisonment and [allegedly] making “terroristic threats” against his son. Names have not been released, but I assume it’s his son who refers to himself as Young Boss aka Lil Jeezy [watch his first video here] Apparently in September of 2012 he and his son [who is over 18] got into a fight in a bathroom, in which at one point Jeezy allegedly said “I will kill you,” and choked him out. Word has not spread on what caused the fight, but it was a scramble between the two, with Jeezy obviously being the victor. He turned himself in on last Friday and was released on $45,000 bond.
I’m not sure how the rest of the world will take this, but hopefully this will not be damaging to Jeezy’s career. It wasn’t simply abuse; his son did assault him as well. It is also not a case of child abuse, since his son was 19 at the time. And Jeezy sounded very similar to many Black mothers I know in his way-more-threatening way of saying “I brought you into this world; I can take you out.” As a person who heard this numerous times and suffered my fair share of corrections, I can’t automatically feel a lot of pity for the son in the situation.
